- NBA Live Mobile Makes More Profit Than The Console Version

NBA Live Mobile (NBALM) released on Apple iOS and Android devices on Tuesday, and I've enjoyed the application.

It's silly to compare the graphics, gameplay and features of a mobile game to that of a console title. Thus, I'll try not to discuss how NBALM stacks up against NBA 2K16—or even the console version of NBA Live.

I can definitively say, NBALM offers more enjoyment than the series was able to produce for fans on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Quite obviously, the standards are different for mobile sports games.

Users aren't likely to expect visuals that are photorealistic. Also, playing on a touch screen isn't yet at a point where it is as intuitive as an analog stick or buttons. All those things considered, NBALM offers the most complete experience from a mobile hoops game I've ever played.

Visually, NBALM isn't an ugly game by any stretch. The players are recognizable and the animations are especially smooth. I was especially impressed with the net physics. There's something about a realistic net reaction after a made basket that gets me hyped.

Is that weird?

The gameplay is very similar to Madden Mobile, only the setup works much better for basketball. The left stick is located on the lower left side of the screen with action buttons on the lower right. It doesn't take a long time to get used to navigating the controls.

Perhaps the toughest aspect of the controls is mastering the art of driving and finishing with a dunk or layup. To perform this sequence, you must hold the drive button until you get in range to dunk.

Once there, you slide your finger to the shoot/dunk button. When you get the hang of it, throwing down a slam is rewarding.

I know I mentioned avoiding comparisons between the mobile and console versions, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention one point. The logic that determines if a shot goes in or misses is much better on NBALM than on NBA Live 16.

In the latter, there were times when extremely tough shots—specifically contested hooks—would fall. In NBALM, the makes and misses seemed much more logical.

From a feature standpoint, NBALM is all about Ultimate Team TISI +%. The objective is to build the best squad you can. You start off with a starter pack filled with scrubs, but you can earn packs and cards by completing challenges and buying packs with the coins you earn from the various activities.

Gamers who are familiar with the Ultimate Team concept on consoles will quickly understand the process.

While NBALM is free to download, you do have the option to spend real money if you want to accelerate the development of your team. If you're like me, you'll want to keep the free stuff free.

Thankfully, you don't have to drop coin to enjoy the game and remain competitive.

NBALM isn't penalized for having such a narrow-minded focus, while that was one of the many criticisms I had for NBA Live 16. It was smart to focus on such a mobile-friendly mode like Ultimate Team. That focus makes the app far more pickup and play.

Overall, NBALM is a game I'll be playing on my phone whenever I'm not able to play on a console. For a guy who is primarily a console gamer, that's the best compliment I can give.
