Over the weekend myself and others of the Pixel Pop Network team took a look at Katrdider: Drift. While the original Kartrider has been around for 15 years and thoroughly enjoyed by some 300 million players in Asia, this new version has been refined, optimised, and pitched to a global market.

Developed and published by Nexon (MapleStory, Hyper Universe, Riders of Icarus) Kartrider has seen a huge eSports following in Korea. Kartrider: Drift will be free-to-play and feature cross-platform gameplay, and will not doubt hope to continue the eSports tradition.

KartRider: Drift, the latest iteration of the highly successful kart racing game, KartRider, was revealed recently at X019. Building upon its 15-year history, KartRider: Drift delivers all the action of its predecessor with even more drift challenges and deeper customisation. Racers can now sign up for the Closed Beta to test out the game’s cross-platform capabilities via Xbox One, including Xbox One X, Steam and Nexon Launcher. With its updated Unreal Engine 4 graphics, KartRider: Drift will offer players even more drift challenges and deeper customization of their karts and characters. The range of styles shown off in the announcement trailer alone is impressive. It feels like there’s something there for everyone. Three distinct modes are coming to the game: Time Attack, the Mario Kart-like Item Mode (sign me up for this one), and the competitive Speed Mode. The KartRider: Drift trailer also boasts that there will be dynamic online updates, not that you’d expect any less from an online game these days. There will additionally be seasonal content that will presumably introduce new tracks, more customization options, interesting abilities to Item Mode, and maybe even some kind of battle pass.
